ABOUT ME

As a food writer and food stylist living in Bristol, I write recipes, cook and eat for a living.  I have written books on stews, soups, beans, eggs, marshmallows and pies. My next project is a book called How to Eat Outside  - a celebration of cooking and eating in the fresh air - think beach parties, BBQ'S and countryside picnics and mountainside fuel and woodland campfires. Published next summer, the book is being launched with a bespoke food and music festival on the 4th-5th July, celebrating all the good things in life at Kate Humble's gorgeous working farm, Humble By Nature, in Monmouthshire.

As a food stylist I'm lucky to work with lots of lovely people to create beautiful images of food for cook books (including all my own books), magazines and TV.

I am also mum to 2 boisterous kids and owner a more than is sensible collection of rescued pets, currently standing at 2 dogs, 2 cats and 3 chickens, and a whole pond full of fish. As well as a hedgehog hibernating under the shed. Life is neither quiet nor simple, but that's just the way I like it.

As well as cooking,  I love gardening, both edible and ornamental, and try to grow as much fruit an veg as I can. Although I sometimes think the slugs, chickens, children, cats and dogs conspire against my best efforts! I have also recently rekindled my love for ceramics and am experimenting with making simple, practical pieces I can use at home and in food styling projects. Not interested in perfection, I love the textures you can get from rolling clay in different materials and I positively relish seeing the thumbprints and rough seams that prove the piece is handmade and unique.
